Matthew OBrien Jones ("we") runs OpenWaypoint and is the data controller for the personal data described here.
What we collect and why
- Account details (email address, login credentials) — to create and run your account. Legal basis: contract.
- Saved missions (map areas, waypoints, settings) — to provide the service. Legal basis: contract.
- Plan and subscription status — to apply your mission limit. Legal basis: contract.
- Technical data (IP address, device and browser details, error logs) — for security, fraud prevention and fixing problems. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
- Support messages — to help you. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
Display preferences (theme, font, text size) are stored only in your browser.
Who we share it with
- Service providers who host the app and database, and map, place-search and elevation services the map uses.
- Paddle, our Merchant of Record, for selling plans, managing subscriptions, payments, tax and invoicing.
- Professional advisers such as accountants and lawyers.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
International transfers
Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses to protect it.
How long we keep it
We keep account data and missions while your account is open. When you delete missions or close your account, we delete or anonymise the data unless the law requires us to keep it.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and per-account data isolation to protect your data.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or move your data, object to processing, and withdraw consent. We reply within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Cookies
We use only essential browser storage to keep you signed in and remember your display preferences. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
